Lag B'Omer Festivities in Jersey Shore Area More than 150 men, women, and children, came together on Sunday, May 14, at the Wayside Shul, Congregation Sons of Israel to celebrate a 2,000 year holiday.  The program featured a show by "Larry - the Jewish Cowboy" complete with rope skills, tomahawk and knife throwing, and expert whip marksmanship.    In addition, all participants enjoyed a unique "French Chef Pizza Experience", with personal pies baked by French Chefs.   Children also enjoyed children's  rides and a special Lag B'Omer Program uniting with Jewish children around the world.

Lag B'Omer commemorates a period in Jewish history, 2,000 years ago,  when a terrible plague, among the disciples of the great Rabbi Akiva, came to a halt.  This day is hailed as a miraculously happy day.  It is also the Yahrzeit of the greatest disciple of Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.   In Israel, it is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people, who travel to Meron, in northern Israel.

The program was sponsored by Congregation Sons of Israel-Ocean, and Chabad of the Shore.   The musical program was conducted by Rabbi Mendy Pevzner, and the Children's program by Rabbi Yaakov Greenberg.
